Barbara Reddick Obituary, Death – James and Josephine Reddick had a huge family of twenty-two people, including Barbara Ann. She enlisted in the military, where she served for 23 years before being medically discharged, following in the footsteps of her father and siblings. Barbara adored serving her country and completed two tours as a peacekeeper.
Barb valued people and her neighborhood, but she especially valued kids. She didn’t have any children of her own, but many people in Guysborough and Glace Bay looked to her as a second mother. When it came to holidays, she prepared treats for the kids to give out. For Halloween, she gave out enormous treat bags filled with pyrotechnics and delivered if the kids couldn’t get to her house.
No kid would be excluded. She adored Maryam and Joseph, her two godchildren, and continued to treat them as if they were still young children long after they had grown up. Barb adored playing bingo, whether it was live or online, and she also loved purchasing lottery tickets. Not to be forgotten are her pets, Barney, Precious, and Angel.
Barb started the very successful Hampers of Hope program, which helped homeless families in the Guysborough and Glace Bay communities as well as local veterans.
She belonged to the Tracadie United Baptist Church Ladies Auxiliary, the Upper Big Tracadie Seniors Action Club, and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 81 Guysborough. She was a fervent supporter of local student fundraising events and the Men’s Brotherhood.
