Barry Jenkin Obituary, Death, Barry Jenkin has passed away

Obituary

Barry Jenkin Obituary, Death –We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of New Zealand broadcasting legend Barry Jenkin today. Our condolences go out to his family and friends. As the previous owner of Beach FM, Barry was also an important figure in the history of radio on Waiheke. It is reasonable to assert that there would be no Waiheke Radio if Barry and Beach FM were not operating.

despite the fact that the previous Waiheke Community Board and Auckland City were the ones to offer us a lease on part of the building (we share tenancy with the Once Upon A Story Trust), we would like to use this opportunity to thank Auckland Council for their ongoing support of community radio on Waiheke through a community lease. After many hours of volunteer work transforming the building from a private residence into a community center, our workspace at The White House was finally opened to the public in 2011.

The members of the Waiheke Local Board, Faye Storer, Jo Holmes, and Don McKenzie, as well as the chair of the board, presided over the grand opening and the cutting of the ribbon. You will be able to hear live music from Leonie Perry, the history of radio on the island discussed by Martin Green and Barry Jenkin, the official opening ceremony discussed by Don McKenzie, and the opinions of Opinionated Islanders Alan Knight and Alex Stone if you listen to the podcast of Island Life from that day.
