Bill Hampson Obituary, Death – We regret to inform you that longtime Volunteer Bill Hampson died away very recently. It is with great regret that we must share this news with you. It is with a heavy heart that we have to provide this information to you, but unfortunately, it is required. It was well known throughout the community that Bill Hampson was a person of high moral character and made a significant contribution to the area in which he lived.
Everyone was completely convinced that Bill appreciated and supported anything and everything that was connected to the Tanfield Railway in some way, shape, or form. This was a reality that could not be called into question at any point. Regarding this matter, there was never any uncertainty in anyone’s mind at any time. As a result of the friendly greeting that he extended to guests of all ages who came to Tanfield, tourists were likely to recognize him as the first sight they saw there.
Additionally, this was the first occasion that people saw the odd cap and coat that he wore. It is possible that the most of his extensive renown can be attributed to the time he spent working as the Station Master at Andrew’s House, which he did for a number of years. In this role, he was responsible for overseeing the operation of the train station. Because of the job he held, one of his obligations was to keep an eye on everything that was going on at the place. He was in charge of supervising all of the activities.
Everyone who knew him will mourn his departure with sorrow, including the countless people of varying ages who traveled the train, and he will definitely be remembered with affection by those individuals. His death will be mourned by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
