Brian Maher Obituary, Death – On May 19, 2023, Brian Michael Maher passed away in a peaceful and unruffled manner, surrounded by his family. He was 53 years old. He was the devoted husband of 49 years to Barbara (Goble) Maher; cherished son of Thomas and Marguerite Maher (deceased); proud brother of Thomas Maher and brother in law to Betty (Ash) Maher, Meg Goble, and Eileen (Goble) Connelly; loving father of Danny, Timmy, and Kara (Darrell) and father-in-law of Richard Darell and Carly (Pritchard) Maher; and doting grandfather to Molly, Grace, Brian, Abby, and Teddy. The people he encountered while participating in the Dominican educational model’s four pillars—community service, outreach, academics, and prayer—have become his extended family.
Before Brian made the decision to transfer careers and become a business education teacher at the freshly created St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School, he labored for some time as an accountant for Grumman. This was prior to Brian’s decision to become a teacher at the school. It was here that he met Barbara for the first time; Barbara would go on to become his wife in the future. His legacy will live on long after he left the high school, despite the fact that he was only there for a brief amount of time. It was in the year 1990 when he was given the honor of being chosen to serve on the institution’s very first Development Board.
He was honored with admission into the institution’s Hall of Fame in the year 2002, and in the year 2010, the Gentlemen’s Dinner Man of Vision Award was bestowed upon him. Following his graduation from St. John the Baptist, he spent the next two years working as an administrator at the Henry Viscardi School before enrolling in the graduate program at the State University of New York at Farmingdale. After working there for a period of forty years, he eventually rose to the position of Dean of the Equal Opportunity Center and was presented with the Board of Regents Chancellor Award in the year 2010.
