Christy Gilchrist Obituary, Death – After experiencing a brief period of decreasing health, Christy A. (Davis) Gilchrist, age 74, of Chester, Vermont and Satsuma, Florida, died away in a peaceful manner on Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative Care in Lebanon, New Hampshire.
She was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing. In August of 1948, Christy Davis was born in Springfield, Vermont, to parents Jeannette M. and Ferris L. Davis. She spent her childhood in North Springfield, Vermont, exploring the area’s woods and streams, and it was there that she first became acquainted with her future husband, Maurice H. Gilchrist.
At the time, she was frequently accompanying her older brother, Ferris (Dusty), and his friends on their numerous excursions into the great outdoors. Christy had her education in the Springfield area, beginning with Perkinsville Elementary School and continuing through Springfield High School, from which she graduated in 1966. Soon after she received her diploma, she found employment at the Jones and Lamson Machine Co. in Springfield, where she remained until 1983.
In Springfield on July 29, 1967, she tied the knot with her best friend from childhood, Maurice H. Gilchrist; this past July, the couple marked 55 years of marriage. Between the years 1983 and 1985, Christy and Maurice were the joint proprietors of the Tyson General Store in Tyson, Vermont; however, as the time spent away from their families was not something they were prepared to give up, they decided to sell the business and relocate to Springfield.
Christy devoted the remainder of her career to working in office administration for a number of machine companies in the Springfield area until she eventually retired in 2013. Christy cherished spending time tending to her flower beds and was skilled at designing stunning outside planters that she placed all about her house. She was quite fond of the seashore and taking her family on hikes in Vermont. One of her favorite traditions was to take her family on a hike to Little Rock Pond in Wallingford, Vermont, for a picnic on Father’s Day. Christy’s volunteer work with the North organization was something she cared much about.
