Dan McCoy Obituary, Death – We are shocked and deeply grieved to learn of the untimely demise of Dan McCoy, a reporter with the Wichita Business Journal. His knowledge and reporting of our aviation business were unparalleled, and his voice on the topic will be sorely missed in this city, which is known as the “Air Capital of the World.” He passed away while being cared for by his devoted children. Mary Katherine McCoy, who had been his wife for 60 years, passed away before him.
Mary was the one and only love of his life, and ever since her demise in 2016, he has missed her terribly. Additionally, Dan’s parents, H. Daniel McCoy Sr. and Francis Anastasia Farabelli McCoy, have passed away before him. He is survived by his six children, Stephanie J. Chatman, Nadene K. Reuling, Monica R. Blankenship (Clayton), Michelle A. Torbert-Muth (Bob), Michael A. McCoy, and Shaun D. McCoy (Heather), as well as a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dan was a soldier who served in the Navy Seabees during the Korean War. He was affiliated to the ACB#2 during his time in the military. In addition, he served in the United States Air Force as an Airman Third Class in that branch of the military. Before joining the Navy and the Air Force, he served in the 104th Mechanized Calvary Reconnaissance Squadron of the National Guard. This was before he joined either of those services.
After receiving honorable discharges from both branches of the military, he went back to his hometown in Pennsylvania. There, he met the woman who would become the love of his life, Mary K. Stimeling, and they got married. Dan worked in the automotive industry for more than half a century. Because of his 23 years of experience working as General Manager at Kirkwood Motors on Kirkwood Highway, he is best known by the nickname “Big Dan.”
