Ernie Johnson Obituary, Death – Ernie Gregory Johnson, an ardent outdoorsman in both his work and his hobbies, lost his heroic battle with lung cancer on Thursday, May 25, 2023. He had been fighting the disease for a long time. On August 16, 1959, Ernie was delivered into this world in Savannah, Georgia. He received his diploma from Windsor Forest High School in the year 1977.
Ernie began his professional life by working in nurseries and landscapes, and he remained in this line of work up until the year 2018, when he and his wife, Doris, retired to Morgan County. The passion that Ernie had for hunting and fishing was the seed that grew into his love of the great outdoors. He was extremely skilled in each and every facet of hunting, and he enjoyed passing on his expertise to novice hunters whenever possible.
Ernie’s parents, Herbert Johnson and Betty Johnson, as well as his brother, Steve Johnson, passed away before him. His wife, Doris H. Johnson, her son Brett Harn and his wife Rebecca, as well as their son Archie, are among those who carry on his legacy. His sister, Lisa Johnson, as well as a large number of relatives, nieces, and nephews, including his brother, Mark Johnson (Maribeth).
Ernie was a die-hard University of Georgia Bulldogs football fan who lived through the 1980 championship, all of the “almost” years, and finally winning back-to-back titles. Go Dawgs! On Monday, May 29, 2023, there will be a visitation at the funeral home from three in the afternoon until five in the evening.
