Gilbert Sloan Obituary, Death – When I found out earlier this week that Dr. Gilbert Sloan had passed away, it was with a heavy heart that I did so. He was a magnificent man whose knowledge and thoughtfulness made an indelible mark on everyone who had the opportunity to interact with him. Gil, who was the husband of my guide Sonia Sloan and the father of my buddy Victor, has just given his assent to the concept of naming the JFS Center for Maternal Mental Health after his late wife.
Sonia Sloan was the mother of my friend Victor. Sonia Sloan served as my tour director. I will never forget the day that we spent with him while we were telling him about the projected community center that we wanted to build. I will always treasure that time. He regaled us with story after story about his time spent serving in Italy, all the way up to his most recent lab research and inventions at the University of Pennsylvania lab he was still consistently working in despite being in his 92nd year.
He did this despite the fact that he was in his 92nd year. Everyone who ever had the privilege of calling Gil a friend thinks that having his memory preserved will ultimately be beneficial to them. At the residence of the dead, Shiva will be observed on Thursday, June 1, beginning at five in the afternoon and continuing until seven in the evening. Donations to The Delaware Community Foundation are being requested by the family in place of conventional floral tributes.
