Jerrie Gwen Contreras, who was 62 years old when she died away peacefully on May 18, 2023, from early-onset Alzheimer’s disease, was born on September 25, 1960, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, to Lou and Clarence Warren. Jerrie was raised in Stigler, Oklahoma, where she spent her childhood playing between her mother Lou’s beauty parlor and her adoring father Clarence’s barbershop, where he gave her the nickname “Squeaky” due to her diminutive yet tenacious physique.
She and her friends, Sherry and Terry, played neighborhood games as they walked throughout the city. In 1983, when Vanessa was five years old, she obtained her G.E.D. Jerrie started her compassionate career in 1984 while working as the childcare staff supervisor at the Youth Emergency Shelter. When her sons Trevor and Hayden were born, she operated a home daycare where she developed enduring bonds with the children in her charge.
In 1998, she was hired as a special needs teacher assistant at Will Rogers Elementary School, where she stayed for the following ten years, continuing her passion for assisting children. Greg and Jerrie were united in marriage on September 27, 1985, and they have been best friends and lovers for 38 years. With her family, Jerrie delighted in weekend camping vacations to the lake and wrestling competitions.
She also liked doing DIY projects related to gardening and interior design as well as hunting for antiques. Jerrie had a special love for outdoor adventures with her husband Greg and garage sales. She and her spouse enjoyed dancing the night away to music from the Urban Cowboy soundtrack and their favorite band, Alabama. Jerrie and her sons enjoyed two-stepping together. She had a remarkable affinity with her daughter, Vanessa, that went beyond mother-daughter and developed into a treasured friendship, forming an unbreakable connection.
