Robert G. “Jerry” Harnas Obituary, Death – On May 11, 2023, Robert G. “Jerry” Harnas, SMSgt. USAF Ret., age 73, a resident of Watkins Glen, New York, passed away and went to rest. Jerry Harnas was the son of Joseph and Ann Harnas, who both passed away, and was born on August 18, 1949 in Elmira, New York. He attended and graduated from Watkins Glen High School.
After 25 years of devoted service with the United States Air Force, Jerry retired from that branch of the military as a Speciality Aerospace Maintenance Superintendent in the year 1994. Following his retirement from the Air Force, Jerry worked as an auto technician at a number of dealerships in the surrounding area. On July 22, 2000, Jerry wed Linda, who would later become his wife.
Jerry was a very active member of the Odessa Conservation Club, and throughout his time there, he frequently gave presentations on Hunters Education and Archery to various youth groups in the area. He is survived by his devoted wife of 23 years, Linda (Bartone) Harnas; his son, Robert Harnas; Linda’s sons, Kevin (Afsana) Doane and Steven Doane; four sisters, JoAnn, Liz, Judy, and Mary; five brothers, Tom, Dave Jack, Paul, and Andy; three brothers-in-law, David and Michael Bartone, and Scott Blackwell; and a very special grandson, Beckett Doane.
Sincere gratitude goes out to Justine Clarkson from the Arnot Ogden Medical Centre for the ongoing care and support she has provided to Jerry and his family. On the Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at 11:00 am, there will be a graveside service with full military honours held for Jerry at Holy Cross Cemetery, which is located on State Route 14 in Watkins Glen, New York. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the Schuyler County Ambulance, which is located at 909 S. Decatur Street in Watkins Glen, New York 14891, or to St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, which is located at 905 N. Decatur Street in Watkins Glen, New York 14891.
