Sofia Puigserver Obituary, Death – Theo Sofia 26 January 2023 On January 26, 2023, Frank Sofia, also known as “S,” went to be with the Lord. On March 5, 1941, Lawrence and Rosaria (Scibilia) Sofia welcomed their second son. He attended North High School in Syracuse, where he was raised, and graduated in 1959.

He then won a full scholarship to Le Moyne College, where he earned his degree in education in 1963. Before beginning to teach Social Studies at Liverpool High School in 1965, he spent a year as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist School. “S” participated in a variety of school-wide activities over the course of his 35-year teaching career, founding a pep club, serving as a student council advisor, and helping to establish a number of new customs emphasizing school spirit, such as the first senior lounge, the Welcome Frosh Dance, the yearly bonfire, and homecoming floats.

He also established himself as the go-to person for class reunions, published “The Smoke Signal,” a newsletter for graduates, and planned an annual alumni dinner dance, all of which helped him become known as the LHS Alumni Association. He also served as the Varsity Club advisor at LHS. Before leaving the classroom in 2000, he had a significant impact on a lot of people. Soon after, he received a call asking him to come back as the LHS stadium coordinator, where he worked every match and was the Liverpool Warriors’ biggest supporter.

He served in that capacity until 2020. He attended the Church of Our Lady of Pompei. Over a number of years, Frank spent his school breaks traveling to Florida. Along with attending and seeing sporting events, he also liked to cook, take pictures, and shop at the Regional Market. His parents, niece Maria E. Sofia, and brother Joseph J. Sofia all passed away before him.

He is survived by his two nieces, Jodyanne (Mark) Tantillo of Cicero, and Sandyanne (Jay) Hoestermann of Lockport, NY, three nephews, Lawrence of Federal Way, Washington, Joseph of Lititz, PA and Frank of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, sister in-law, Maria N. Sofia of Liverpool and great nieces, great nephews, cousins, longtime close friend, Rosemarie Emmi and her family and George and Bonnie Ladd Mangicaro.
