Steven Shotts Obituary, Death – In the presence of his loved ones, Steven Charles Shotts, 67, of Galesburg, Illinois, died away peacefully at 3:10 a.m. on May 16, 2023. To Samuel and Aline (Gilbert) Shotts in Peoria, Illinois, Steve was born on September 21, 1955. They passed away before him. On September 4, 1985, Steve wed Cynthia Cervantez in Galesburg, Illinois.
They have three sons: Thomas (Amber) of Galesburg, Patrick of Airway Heights, Washington, and Andrew of Galesburg. She is still alive. Along with his brother Samuel (Beth) of Highland Village, Texas, and several nieces and nephews, he is also survived by his three grandchildren: Steven and Dylan of Airway Heights, and Ariana of Galesburg.
After graduating from Galesburg High School in 1973, Steve went on a US-wide backpacking trip. After that, he joined the US Army. He participated in a variety of outdoor activities at the Hook and Bullet Club, where he was a member. He especially enjoyed spending time with his sons and grandchildren. He had been sober for 16 years and was a proud member of AA. Steve loved to read, listen to music, and share his perspective on life with his family and friends.
On Friday, May 19, 2023, Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, in Galesburg, will be open from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. for visitation. At 7:00 p.m., the rosary will be recited. Father Deus-Dedit Byabato will officiate at the funeral mass, which will be held at St. Patrick Catholic Church on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. The Knox County Honor Guard will perform Steve’s military rites at the church after the service. Private family funeral rites will take place at a later time. Donations in remembrance may be made to the family.
